You can learn quite a bit about a couple by seeing how many people are willing to pack formalwear into a suitcase and travel hundreds of miles to celebrate them. For Lauren and Liam, the answer was: a lot. Their wedding at Isla Bella brought family and friends to the Florida Keys for an entire weekend centered around good people, ocean views, and the kind of celebration where everyone genuinely wanted to be there. Even their grandparents made the trip, which felt especially meaningful for a destination wedding. That support says so much about who Lauren and Liam are. They are kind, welcoming, and deeply loved by the people around them.
From the moment I arrived, they treated me less like someone they had hired and more like another person invited into the day, and their entire family did the same.
They brought me into conversations, made sure I felt included, and trusted me to document the celebration as it unfolded. By the end of the weekend, I didn’t feel like I had simply photographed a Florida Keys destination wedding. I felt like I had been welcomed into one and that always means the world to me.

Lauren and Liam chose Isla Bella Beach Resort in Marathon, Florida, for their destination wedding and once you see the property, it is not difficult to understand why.

The resort stretches along the water with white buildings, tall palm trees, open skies, and ocean views that seem to follow you from one part of the property to the next. Instead of transporting everyone between several disconnected locations, their guests could settle into the resort and remain close to the wedding throughout the weekend.
That gave the entire celebration a more relaxed rhythm. People had time to catch up by the water, share meals, wander the property, and enjoy being together before the ceremony even began. The wedding wasn’t squeezed into a few hurried hours. It became part of a larger experience.
Psst. I share more about why multi-day wedding weekends are becoming the normal in this post if you’re curious.

When you are considering different Florida Keys wedding locations, scenery is probably high on your list, but accessibility matters too!
Isla Bella is located in Marathon in the Middle Keys, roughly between Key Largo and Key West. It is approximately a two-hour drive from Miami and about an hour from Key West International Airport. That central location allows you and your guests to experience the Keys without requiring everyone to stay directly in the busier parts of Key West.

For Lauren and Liam’s families, having accommodations, restaurants, activities, and the wedding celebration in one place made the destination experience feel much more manageable.
No one needed to spend the weekend coordinating complicated transportation plans or figuring out where the rest of the group had disappeared to. Once guests arrived, they could settle in and enjoy themselves. And when grandparents or family members of different ages are traveling, that simplicity can make a HUGE difference.

Isla Bella is an oceanfront wedding venue and full-service resort, which basically means it can accommodate more than the ceremony and reception.

The property has nearly a mile of waterfront, five oceanfront pools, on-site dining, a spa, a fitness center, and rooms with ocean views and private outdoor areas. For a destination wedding, that creates the opportunity to plan an entire weekend rather than asking everyone to travel for a single event.
You could welcome guests with dinner or drinks after they arrive, spend the morning by the pool, host your wedding celebration, and meet again for breakfast before everyone heads home. Guests still have the freedom to make their own plans, but there are natural opportunities to spend more time together.
That is one of my favorite things about destination weddings. Your wedding day remains the heart of the experience, but it is surrounded by slower conversations, shared meals, and extra time with people you may not see often.

Isla Bella offers wedding packages that help couples coordinate their ceremony, cocktail hour, catering, and reception within the resort. You can preview their wedding collection below. You can also find this resource on their website!
Your wedding experience here allows you to move from a waterfront ceremony into a cocktail hour with chef-prepared hors d’oeuvres, followed by the reception. The resort also has multiple oceanfront event spaces, which allows you to create a natural flow between each part of the day… and did I mention the ocean views?!?
Because packages, availability, pricing, and inclusions can change, I recommend contacting the resort directly before building your budget around information found elsewhere online. Their team can provide the most current details and help you understand what is included for your date and guest count.

A destination wedding inevitably comes with one question from guests: So, what are we doing while we’re there?
At Isla Bella, the answer can be as adventurous or as simple as you want. There are truly SO many things that you can do without ever leaving the resort such as: beach yoga, visiting the oceanfront pool, checking out the fitness area, dining at one of their on-site restaurants.
Additionally, the resort also offers more adventurous excursions like: kayak and paddleboard rentals, and access to additional experiences around the Florida Keys such as sailing, fishing, snorkeling, diving, visiting Sombrero Beach, and the Seven Mile Bridge.

With being a destination wedding photographer, and having been to several resorts prior, I was pleasantly surprised with how many options Isla Bella had for dining. Truly, this resort has thought of everything!
Isla Bella has several on-site dining choices, ranging from quick coffee and casual poolside food to sit-down meals. Current options include Mahina, Sushi Cabana, The Beach Bar, Burger Palace, and Marketplace Café.

Having multiple restaurants on the property gives guests flexibility. Your grandparents can sit down for breakfast while your college friends recover by the pool with coffee. Everyone wins.
This created easy gathering points throughout the weekend for Lauren and Liam without requiring them to formally host every meal.

The Florida Keys gave Lauren and Liam a beautiful setting, but the location was only one part of what made their wedding memorable. What stayed with me most was how supported they were.

Destination weddings sometimes require guests to rearrange schedules, budget for travel, and spend several days away from home. Seeing so many people, including their grandparents make that effort was incredibly special. Their families did not simply attend. They showed up with enthusiasm and it was an absolute honor to witness.
There was a feeling throughout the day that everyone understood the importance of being there. People were excited to celebrate Lauren and Liam, and that energy carried through every part of the wedding. As their photographer, I was trusted with an intimate view of it all.
Lauren and Liam let me into the quieter pieces of their story, and their families welcomed me with the same openness. That trust allowed me to photograph the day without making it feel like a production.
I could pay attention to the hugs happening just outside the main gathering, the grandparents taking everything in, and the small exchanges between Lauren and Liam when no one else seemed to be watching.
That is always what I hope to give a couple: photographs of the beautiful parts, certainly, but also photographs that help them remember how deeply they were cared for.

A wedding at Isla Bella is the perfect option if you want oceanfront scenery without separating your guests across multiple hotels and venues.
Before booking, think beyond the ceremony setup and ask yourself what you want the entire weekend to feel like.
Do you want everyone gathered in one place? Do you hope your grandparents can comfortably participate? Would your guests appreciate restaurants and activities within walking distance? Do you want portraits near the water without adding extra transportation to the timeline?
If the answer to those questions is yes, a resort wedding in Marathon should definitely be on your list of venues to explore!

Lauren and Liam’s wedding reminded me why I love traveling to document celebrations like this one. As a destination wedding photographer, I approach travel weddings with the same care I bring to celebrations closer to home. I want to understand who matters to you, what you are most excited to experience, and which parts of the weekend you never want to forget.
If you are planning a wedding at Isla Bella or exploring other Florida Keys wedding locations, I would be honored to hear what you are creating. Get in touch here.
