There are engagement sessions where the location does most of the talking, and then there are sessions where two people show up with easy laughter, glass Coke bottles, and the kind of comfort that makes the whole thing feel less like a photoshoot and more like tagging along on a really sweet afternoon. This Savannah GA engagement session with Madison Squared was both.
Yes, Madison Squared. As in Madison + Madison. A perfect little nickname for a couple that already feels like they come with their own inside joke.
We spent their engagement session wandering through Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia under the Spanish moss, through the garden paths, near the fountain, and into all the little in-between corners that make this city such a beautiful place to be photographed. It was classic Savannah without feeling boring, romantic without trying too hard, and playful without becoming performative.
Which, honestly, is my favorite kind of engagement session.

When you think about a Savannah GA engagement session, Forsyth Park is probably one of the first places that comes to mind and for good reason.
The fountain is iconic. The oak trees are dramatic in the way only Savannah oak trees can be. The Spanish moss brings all this soft movement overhead. But the real reason Forsyth Park works so well for engagement photos is not just because it is beautiful. It is because it gives you room to settle in.

You can start with a few classic portraits near the fountain, then move into quieter garden areas, shaded pathways, benches, open sidewalks, and pockets of greenery that feel a little more tucked away from the busy parts of the park. That variety matters because most couples do not walk into engagement photos feeling instantly comfortable.
You need to take a walk, lean into each other, make a joke, fix a hair, grab a sip of Coke, and remember that you are not here to become two entirely different people for the sake of “good photos.”

Forsyth Park has such a strong sense of place, which is exactly what makes it such a beautiful location for engagement photos in Savannah GA.
You get the unmistakable Savannah feeling right away: the long walkways, the hanging moss, the fountain, the garden textures, the historic charm, and that slow Southern rhythm that makes you want to put your phone away for once.

For Madison Squared, Forsyth Park gave us a little bit of everything:
That is the beauty of a Forsyth Park engagement session. You do not have to force one single mood the entire time.

The fountain at Forsyth Park is one of those Savannah landmarks that could easily make photos feel overly posed if you let it take over the whole session.
So instead of treating it like a checklist item of “stand here, smile, done”, I like using it as one part of the story.
For this Savannah GA engagement session, we made space for those classic fountain portraits, but we also moved around it. We let the architecture sit in the background. We used the paths, the edges, the movement of people walking through the park, and the softness of the garden nearby.
The garden gave everything a quieter feeling, and then there is the Spanish moss.
Savannah’s Spanish moss is basically the friend who shows up overdressed but somehow still makes everyone else look better. It adds texture, softens the light. It frames the couple in a way that feels romantic, but not overly polished.
For Madison Squared, it helped the whole session feel grounded and deeply Savannah.

One of my favorite details from this session was the Coke bottles.
Your engagement session does not need to be built around props, themes, or a full production. In fact, I usually think less is better. But a personal detail, something you actually love (!!!), something that makes sense for you can give your photos a little more personality.
Madison Squared loves Coke, so we worked it in.
Not in a “hold this and pretend you are in an ad” kind of way. More like: this is something you would actually drink, something that makes you smile, something that helps the two of you loosen up and feel like yourselves.
That is the kind of detail I love.
Because when you look back at your photos years from now, you are not just going to care that the garden looked pretty or that the fountain was in the background. You are going to care that the photos feel connected to who you were in that season.

For a Savannah GA engagement session, I always recommend choosing outfits that feel like an elevated version of what you would actually wear. Something comfortable enough that you can walk, sit, lean, move, and breathe.
Forsyth Park photographs beautifully with:
The goal is not to perfectly match the scenery. It is to complement it without disappearing into it. If you’re engagement session is during this spring, you’ll want to check out my spring engagement outfit guide!
Since Forsyth Park has so much green, stone, white fountain detail, and warm Savannah texture, outfits with softness and structure tend to photograph really well. You want to look like yourself, but with a little extra care.

Lighting matters a lot for Forsyth Park engagement photos.
Because the park has a mix of open areas and shaded paths, the time of day can completely change the feeling of your images. Earlier morning can feel peaceful and quiet, especially before the park fills up. Evening light brings a softer, warmer feel and can make the Spanish moss and fountain area photograph beautifully.
Midday can work, too, but it takes a little more intention. The light is stronger, the park may be busier, and we will likely lean more into shaded garden areas and tree-lined paths.
This is part of why I help my couples think through timing before the session.

If you are planning your own Savannah GA engagement session, here are a few things that can make the whole experience feel easier.
Forsyth Park is a great choice because you can get several different looks without driving all over Savannah. Fountain photos, garden photos, walking photos, mossy tree portraits — all in one place!
Most people do not feel natural in front of the camera in the first five minutes. That is okay. A slower session gives you time to settle, move, and stop overthinking every facial expression.
Coke bottles, a favorite drink, a book, your dog, a picnic blanket. It does not have to be complicated. Just make sure it actually feels connected to you.
If you are worried about sitting, walking, hugging, or lifting your arms, it will show. Comfort photographs better than panic. Every time. Need help deciding what to wear? Check out this post!
The best engagement photos usually happen in the moments between the planned ones. The laugh after the almost-kiss, the hand squeeze, the way you look at each other when you forget you are being photographed.

What I loved most about Madison Squared’s session was how honest it felt.
There was sweetness, but not in a forced way. There was playfulness, but not in a “perform for the camera” way. And there was the beauty of Savannah with the fountain, the Spanish moss, the garden, and the soft architecture of Forsyth Park

If you are dreaming about a Savannah GA engagement session that feels relaxed, meaningful, and true to who you are, Forsyth Park is such a beautiful place to begin.
